In the shadows, a face was hidden in the darkness.

As they walked, the specks of blood on their pants looked like infrared dots.

Aunt Liu stepped out of the shadows, holding a steaming bowl of soup in her hand.

Her eyes were lifeless, and as she approached me, the smell of blood became more pungent and intense.

She was clearly smiling at me in a friendly manner, but I couldn't help wanting to stay further away from her.

"Sir, the soup for Madam is ready."

Hoarse, rough.

Like the sound of someone in their death throes.

Once, I had heard a similar sound from someone's mouth.

"You go ahead, I'm heading to work, take good care of Madam."

Gao Xiu was still angrily shouting at me from behind as I hurried to the door. Just before opening the door, Aunt Liu's voice reached my ears.

"Madam, it's because I look scary. If Sir really doesn't want me here, I should leave, right?"

Gao Xiu was indifferent: "Aunt Liu, I've got a bone to pick with Mo Wenqing about this! You stay put, I want to see what tricks he can come up with day after day."

Aunt Liu just sighed softly as usual, but in my mind, her face, hidden in the dark and filled with resentment, appeared.

I admit, at first, I just thought Aunt Liu looked familiar, but I never considered anything else.

Until that night...

I have a habit of getting up at night, the time is unpredictable, but ever since Aunt Liu arrived, it always happens at 4:44 AM.

I believe in some superstitions, so I have an aversion to this number. Normally, I would hold off for about ten minutes before getting up, but that night, a voice subtly told me not to wait, because waiting a second longer.

Would mean death!

It was then that I suddenly realized Aunt Liu was introduced by my father-in-law to work at our home.
