Coming out of the clinic, I found myself engulfed in an inexplicable emotion.

After Luo Cheng hypnotized me, I saw a grand wedding between Qin Jun and me, something I had deeply longed for. Although I hadn't actually experienced it, it felt incredibly real.

So real that, the moment I woke up, everything disappeared, leaving me with a sense of loss.

If Wang Leng had experienced similarly vivid scenes, witnessing the tragic murder of his wife and daughter, would he seek revenge because of it?

No!

As a normal person, one can clearly distinguish between reality and illusion, unless he himself is not normal.

If he already had mental issues, he might indeed be trapped in the hypnotic scenes, unable to extricate himself. Of course, all of this is just my conjecture; I need someone professional to provide their opinion on this matter.

I hurried home; it was lunchtime.

Qin Jun had just served the meal. As he took his first bite, I couldn't wait to voice my doubts.

"If a mentally unstable person is in deep hypnosis, they might indeed exhibit some abnormal behavior. But committing murder is too much, even if they were deeply hypnotized at the time. Given Wang Leng’s condition and the external environment, it's impossible for him to remain in a state of deep hypnosis."

"So, you're saying that Luo Cheng has nothing to do with Wang Leng’s case?" I asked uncertainly.

Qin Jun put down his chopsticks, picked up the soup spoon with his right hand, and said while scooping soup, "I've read about Wang Leng's case. The police concluded that he had mental issues and was in the throes of an episode when he committed the crime. In other words, it’s a case of a mentally ill person committing a crime. The mysterious nature of psychology is what gives this case the appearance of having many unresolved questions. You can't keep chasing after a truth that doesn't exist."

Qin Jun’s words woke me up. Yes, I had fallen into a trap, associating Wang Leng’s case with Luo Cheng’s treatment from the start.

This preconceived notion made me automatically overlook the police’s conclusion that Wang Leng was a mental patient.

What Chen Mei said about Wang Leng suddenly having mental issues was objectively true. Many mental patients show no signs before their first episode.

Wang Leng might have felt something was wrong with him and sought treatment from Luo Cheng, and had an episode during the treatment. Chen Mei, as his wife, was understandably distressed and in need of a reason to explain her husband's behavior, an emotional outlet, which led her to me. But I had been stubbornly fixated.

Understanding this, I chuckled at myself, my appetite returning. Qin Jun smiled and said, “Figured it out?”

“Yes.”

After lunch, I organized the investigation materials for Chen Mei, stretched, and collapsed on the bed.
