I cried holding my dad's pillow.
Damn phone rang again.
When I answered, it was a barrage of curses on the other end. I knew my phone number had been leaked.
"I heard your dad died? Good riddance! Your whole family should die. What a pathetic life. Your dad deserved to die!"
This sentence completely infuriated me, and I shouted back at the other end like a mad person.
The louder my voice became, the more excited the other person got.
After hanging up, there were constant calls with obscene language and insults towards my dad.
Fortunately, I don't have many relatives left, and I don't usually stay in touch with them to avoid bothering innocent people.
I changed my phone number.
I called my counselor to ensure that the school could reach me.
I also called the police station, explained the situation, and told them I would handle things at home and then return.
They urged me to do it quickly since the whole society is paying attention to this matter now.
Both the school and they are under a lot of pressure.
I spent two days cleaning up the small courtyard and removing all the weeds.
In the yard, there is a small patch of land where my dad used to grow some small cabbage for our own consumption.
When I was a child, whenever the cabbage just started growing, my mom would always say, "While the cabbage is tender, let's give some to the eldest child. It tastes good now."
My dad would always mutter with concern, "What a waste, what a waste. It can still grow bigger if we let it grow a bit longer."
But at night, there would always be a bowl of tender cabbage soup placed in front of me.
I turned over that piece of land, loosened the soil. If I had more time, I would have liked to plant small cabbage all over the place.
Just like my dad was still alive.
When I left my hometown, I stood at the village entrance for a long time, wanting to firmly remember the few beautiful memories from my childhood. I don't know when I'll be able to come back again once I leave.
