Here is how it went down.

Back in the day, Bo Yikao and Daji knew each other from childhood and had deep feelings for one another.

Later, Bo Yikao achieved a military victory, and King Zhou wanted to marry his daughter to Bo Yikao to win over the courtiers. However, Bo Yikao, considering his feelings for Daji, refused outright.

This move shocked Jichang greatly.

To be precise, Jichang always intended to replace King Zhou and become the emperor. Therefore, he visited wise men everywhere, including Jiang Ziya.

If Bo Yikao did not agree to the marriage proposal from King Zhou, the latter would inevitably grow suspicious of himself...

However, at that time, Jichang was merely gathering strength in secret and hadn't disclosed his intentions to others. He didn't know how to explain his plan to Bo Yikao.

Jiang Ziya understood Jichang’s mind and came up with a "kill two birds with one stone" plan.

Bo Yikao was good at painting. He drew a picture of Daji and placed it beside his bed to ease his longing for her.

Jiang Ziya said to Jichang, "This woman is a rare beauty whom everyone admires. I've heard that King Zhou enjoys flaunting and loves beautiful women. Why not give this painting to King Zhou?"

Jichang, constrained by his persona of being "loyal to the king and patriotic," did not express his thoughts.

Jiang Ziya saw through Jichang’s thoughts and proposed another plan. He suggested Jichang invite Fei Zhong for a drink and, under the pretext of viewing Bo Yikao's weapons, lead Fei Zhong to Bo Yikao's room. This way, when Fei Zhong saw the painting of Daji, he would be sure to ask who the woman in the painting was. By then, it was just a matter of telling Fei Zhong the truth, letting Fei Zhong inform King Zhou about Su Daji.

After all preparations were in place, Jichang found an excuse to invite Fei Zhong for a drink. After some drinks and casual conversation, Jichang suggested that Fei Zhong take a look at Bo Yikao's treasured sword.

He led Fei Zhong to Bo Yikao's room.

As expected, once in the room, Fei Zhong was immediately attracted by the painting hanging on Bo Yikao's wall. He gazed at the woman in the painting and asked Jichang, "Who is this enchanting lady?"

Jichang, pretending to be nonchalant, said to Fei Zhong, "This woman’s surname is Su. She is Su Hu's daughter from Jizhou, named Su Daji."

Fei Zhong kept this in mind. Upon returning to Zhaoge, he told King Zhou, "Su Hu's daughter from Jizhou is a rare beauty. Your Majesty should take her as a consort."

King Zhou sought Su Hu’s consent to marry Daji, but Su Hu refused.

King Zhou consulted Fei Zhong on how to proceed. Fei Zhong suggested a wicked plan: "Your Majesty can secretly bribe the barbarians to attack Jizhou. Then send your troops to rescue them. That way, not only can you save Su Daji, but you can also win her heart."

King Zhou agreed wholeheartedly.

However, Jiang Ziya learned about the conspiracy between King Zhou and Fei Zhong. He approached Jichang and proposed a second step: dispatch Bo Yikao ahead of King Zhou to rescue Su Daji.

Jichang, bewildered, said, "Didn't you show Fei Zhong the portrait of Su Daji to make King Zhou give up on Bo Yikao so that Bo Yikao could marry King Zhou's daughter?"

Jiang Ziya shook his head and said, "This is a two-fold plan. First, it dispels King Zhou’s suspicions. Second, by giving King Zhou an unparalleled beauty, he will be lost in her charms. However, to carry out our beauty scheme with Su Daji, we need to employ some tricks."

"What kind of tricks?"

"Make Su Daji willingly enchant King Zhou."

"How will she be willing?"

"It’s destined by the heavens."

Jichang looked at Jiang Ziya curiously, but Jiang Ziya just smiled and said, "Daji belongs to the You Su Tribe, which is a branch of the ancient Tu Shan Clan."

During the era of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, a great flood descended from the heavens. Emperor Shun intended to use the flood as an opportunity to eliminate dissenters and secure the throne for his son. He dispatched Gun, who was supported by the Four Mountains, to control the flood. Later, Gun failed and was executed by Emperor Shun.

After Gun's death, the Four Mountains started to support Yu. Emperor Shun used the same trick and sent Yu to control the flood.

Yu knew Emperor Shun aimed to eliminate him and thus went to the Tu Shan Clan to borrow the Ruyi Jingu Bang (Golden Cudgel). With the help of the River God, he succeeded in controlling the flood and won the people's support.

Then, taking advantage of Emperor Shun's inspection trip to the south, Yu secretly killed him. Emperor Shun’s two wives, knowing he died in Cangwu, went searching for him in tears. Fearing the truth about killing Emperor Shun would be discovered, Yu ordered the execution of the two wives. The blood and tears of the two consorts stained the bamboo, resulting in today's Xiang Bamboo.

After witnessing Yu’s ruthlessness, the Tu Shan Clan became fearful. They knew Yu would abolish the system of abdication and keep the power for himself. Such an emperor terrified them, so they transformed into stones, waiting for the fall of the Xia Dynasty.

Later, Yu found the stone-transformed Tu Shan Clan and his wife.

As it turned out, Yu's wife was already pregnant. Therefore, even in stone form, Yu could recognize her.

Yu said to the stone figure, "Return my son."

The stone figure’s belly opened, revealing a baby inside. This baby was the future King Qi of Xia.

Out of fear for Yu, the Tu Shan Clan always appeared in stone form. It wasn’t until Shang Tang overthrew the Xia Dynasty that they became human again. After generations of reproduction, they ultimately evolved into the You Su Tribe of today.

Listening to Jiang Ziya’s narration, Jichang was puzzled, "Why do I not know any of this?"

"Not just you. Even Su Hu, the leader of the You Su Tribe, might not know this," Jiang Ziya said. "The Tu Shan Clan thought after Yu’s death, the Xia Dynasty would be overthrown, and the rule of virtue would return as in ancient times. They didn’t anticipate that the abdication system would never return. Even though the Xia Dynasty was eventually overthrown, the resulting Shang Dynasty was not an abdication system but a hereditary one. Therefore, the Tu Shan Clan deliberately forgot their past but retained some ancient beliefs."

"Beliefs?"

"Yes, the Tu Shan Clan and today's You Su Tribe have always worshipped the Nine-tailed Fox," Jiang Ziya said. "I have seen the Investiture of the Gods. Nuwa will summon the Nine-tailed Fox to bring calamity to King Zhou of Shang!"
