I sat in the living room with Lin Yan in silence, lost in our thoughts. It wasn't until around five o'clock that I heard what seemed to be sirens downstairs.

Lin Yan heard it too, and we went to the terrace to look down with binoculars to see what was happening.

Indeed, it was the police, with two teams of officers, including a SWAT team.

The number of zombies downstairs hadn't increased; it was still the two security guards and the couple. The four zombies were just wandering around the neighborhood without consciousness, but when they heard the noise, they all turned their heads towards the direction of the police.

They only turned their heads, but their bodies remained unchanged.

The police started shooting, but the bullets only made the four zombies tremble, and their footsteps didn't stop as they continued running straight towards the police.

The male zombie in the front, who was the strongest among the four, was about to pounce on the nearest police officer when a SWAT member shot him in the head. The bullet pierced through his temple, and dark blue blood gushed out from the other side of his head. He immediately fell to the ground.

Having found the trick, the remaining three zombies were quickly shot in the head by the SWAT team.

All four zombies lay motionless on the ground, and the police waited for another ten minutes before they saw no signs of resurrection. They then approached and loaded them onto the vehicles.

When I put down the binoculars, I noticed that the residents in the neighborhood were all standing on their terraces, watching the commotion, but no one made a sound.

Lin Yan and I returned to the house, and I asked him, "Since all four zombies were killed, shouldn't we be able to control the situation? And now we also know that aiming for their heads is the most effective method."

"After the organ failure, the central nervous system in their brains is eroded and destroyed by the strange black virus. However, we can't find this black virus in the failing body organs. So, I think the central nervous system is not destroyed by these viruses but controlled. That's why shooting them in the head is the most effective method," Lin Yan pondered for a moment. "Although that's the case, due to the simultaneous outbreak across the country, it's highly unlikely to be controlled. If our neighborhood can experience this situation, other neighborhoods may also face the same. The manpower available to deal with this is simply insufficient, and even a single bite from a zombie takes only ten minutes to assimilate. Even if the zombies use a human wave tactic, we'll be helpless."

I sighed and opened the homeowners' group chat that I had silenced. As expected, it exploded with messages.

"Damn it, what the hell are those things?"

"I've seen them in movies! Those things are zombies!"

"Is the end of the world really coming?"

"This is heaven wanting us dead!"

...

The head of the community work group mentioned us nurses and doctors in the chat.

"The city hospital is understaffed and requests assistance from our community hospitals. Is there anyone willing to go? The salary will be triple the usual rate."

No one responded.

"This is a glorious mission that concerns our entire city, our entire country, and the vast population. Doctors and nurses from the city hospital are still fighting on the front lines, and we cannot be cowardly and selfish! If professionals like us don't go to help the people, then no one can help them!"

Gradually, a few doctors and nurses volunteered. However, they were not many. In a group of over thirty people, less than ten signed up in the end.

Of course, I wasn't among them.

Lin Yan was right; I am someone who is very cowardly and afraid of death...
