"The car is unlocked! Chen Yun, get in quickly!"

I sat in the passenger seat, coughing violently, and it took a while for me to catch my breath.

"Let me tell you, I'm sacrificing myself to accompany a gentleman. You owe me compensation for the mental stress, cough, cough." I looked at Chen Yun with resentment. "Clearly, I don't have to be afraid of zombies, but I still have to risk my life running with you!"

"Is that so?" He fiddled with the ignition of the car. "Haven't you noticed that the zombies seem to have become stronger?"

"Really?"

"How could ordinary zombies break open the door of the control room? So I pulled you along, afraid that even if you have antibodies, you wouldn't have time to kill the zombies and would end up torn to pieces."

After listening to him, I fell silent.

The image of him blocking the zombies in front of me when they rushed in was vivid in my mind.

I looked at Chen Yun's profile as he focused on driving, quietly staring ahead.

There was a gentle yet distant feeling about Chen Yun, a feeling that made me think he wasn't the kind of person who would unconditionally stand in front of me.

"Well, thank you for saving me."

"You're welcome." He said, "We're comrades, of course, we should run together."

But to think that we had only known each other for two days, and he was willing to risk his life to save me?

"However," Chen Yun raised an eyebrow, "if you're willing to thank me, I'm more than happy to keep following you. After all, Miss Yu has special abilities, and I feel really safe when I'm with you."

I opened the payment code and shook it. "Sure, the protection fee is five hundred a day."

Chen Yun shook his head and smiled. "Okay, just remember, when the protection period is over, I'll pay you in one lump sum."

"Alright, let's get down to business." I plugged the power bank into my phone, which Chen Yun had brought out from the supermarket, and said, "The supermarket was clearly closed tightly, and no zombies got in. Could it be that there's something wrong with the food that the people hiding there suddenly mutated?"

Chen Yun made a sound of agreement. "Other than that, I can't think of any other reasonable explanation. Unfortunately, it was too chaotic, and we didn't have a chance to ask them what they had eaten."

"We have signal!" I looked at my phone with delight. "Let me check the situation in the surrounding cities!"

"Xiao Yu, is that you?"

Suddenly, a voice came from behind, startling me. I held onto the backrest and looked at the person climbing up from under the back seat. "Boss?"

Something even scarier than zombies happened.

That thing was your boss suddenly appearing behind you.

I was completely confused. "Boss, what are you doing here?"

The boss straightened his clothes and sat in the back seat. "Can't I be in my own car?"

"Your car?" I looked at the logo on the car key. "Sorry, boss, we thought no one wanted this car-- I mean, what I want to ask is, why did you crawl out from underneath?"

"Don't mention it, hiding from zombies." The boss coughed. "Just now, a group of people ran past here, and when they saw the car, they chased after it and dragged a whole family out of the car and bit them to death. Xiao Yu, what were you guys talking about just now? What special abilities? Do you have antibodies and aren't afraid of zombies?"

I kept my composure. "No, I was just talking nonsense."

"Xiao Yu, help me out. Share some of your antibodies with me, and I'll give you a promotion and a raise!"

I sneered and wore an expression that was one-third coldness, one-third mockery, and one-third indifference. "Oh, my respected boss, do you know what time it is now? I could have not worked, but why did you make me work as soon as you arrived?"

"How about I give you a portion of the company's shares?"

"With our company's stock price, going all the way down, do you want to trap me?" I shookmy head. "Boss, you should focus on surviving for now. We can talk about promotions and raises after the zombie apocalypse is over."

The boss sighed and leaned back in his seat. "You're right, Xiao Yu. Survival is the priority. By the way, have you found any useful information about the sudden mutation of the zombies?"

I turned back to my phone. "I just got the signal back, let me check the news."

As I scrolled through the news articles, one headline caught my attention: "Mysterious Virus Outbreak Linked to Food Contamination"

"Boss, I think I found something." I handed him the phone.

The boss put on his reading glasses and started reading the article. "According to this report, there have been several cases of a mysterious virus outbreak in different cities. The common factor seems to be food contamination. The authorities suspect that a new strain of the virus has contaminated the food supply, causing people who consume it to turn into aggressive zombies."

"So it wasn't just our city." Chen Yun chimed in from the driver's seat.

"No, it seems to be a widespread issue." The boss took off his glasses and looked at us with concern. "We need to find a safe place to regroup and figure out a plan. Xiao Yu, do you have any ideas?"

I pondered for a moment. "There's a research facility not too far from here. They specialize in studying viruses and infectious diseases. It might be a good place to seek shelter and gather more information."

Chen Yun nodded. "That sounds like a reasonable plan. Let's head there and see if they have any insights into this outbreak."

The boss agreed, and we set off towards the research facility. As we drove through the desolate streets, the gravity of the situation sank in. The world had changed, and our survival depended on our ability to adapt and find answers.

Little did we know that our journey to the research facility would be filled with both challenges and revelations, and that the fate of humanity would rest on our shoulders.
