The fifth day after the outbreak of the apocalypse.

The entire city has fallen into complete chaos, with zombies roaming outside the windows.

In the beginning, the government would still distribute some relief supplies, but now the number of government personnel has decreased, and there is no more food.

The zombies feast on raw flesh and drink fresh blood. Any living being that takes a breath is quickly devoured by a group of zombies.

The surviving people dare not leave their homes. Soon, there are no more living beings outside, and the zombie hordes no longer content themselves with devouring corpses. They begin to search house by house for living humans.

Without government relief, Zhao Yue and Li Chi have been starving at home for several days.

Zhao Yue searched the room but couldn't find any trace of food. She had no choice but to open the refrigerator and rummage through the rotten food, searching for anything edible.

Moldy bananas, rotten tomatoes, shriveled cucumbers—they devoured the meager remains of food like starving wolves.

"If we continue like this, even if we don't get bitten by a zombie, we'll starve to death!" Zhao Yue couldn't bear it any longer and shouted at Li Chi.

Their eyes were bloodshot, their faces waxen, and their skin was starting to wither. They had been starving for several days.

"What should we do then? The world outside is overrun by zombies," Li Chi said with a furrowed brow.

"You go. Go find some food for us. I can't stand it anymore, please, Li Chi," Zhao Yue pleaded with a sobbing voice.

At this moment, several zombies lurking outside their window sensed the presence of living beings. They gathered in groups, lying in wait outside Zhao Yue's window.

Li Chi looked at the pale and bloody faces pressed against the window, trembling with fear. "Look at the zombies outside. If I go out, I'll be instantly torn apart. Where am I supposed to find food for you?"

Starving, Zhao Yue grabbed Li Chi's arm and wished to take a bite. Her bloodshot eyes stared pitifully at Li Chi. "But if we don't go out and find something to eat, we'll both starve to death here. We've been together for so many years. Can you bear to let me die of hunger?"

Li Chi hesitated. The zombies outside the window were still there, as if waiting for Li Chi to step out and be devoured in one bite.

"I'm not going! If you want to go, you go! Going out means certain death! Are you asking me to die?" Li Chi pushed away Zhao Yue's arm.

The horde of zombies outside the window stared for a long time but failed to break the glass. Eventually, some of them gave up and slowly dispersed.

Infuriated, Zhao Yue and Li Chi began to quarrel and fight each other.

Watching Zhao Yue and Li Chi turn against each other, I couldn't help but feel relieved. The bond between people means nothing in the face of survival, especially when they were never moral or righteous individuals to begin with.

At that moment, the entire room went dark. The lights on all the floors went out, leaving everything pitch black. The room concealed the very breath of the living.

The city had become a dead city. Many supply systems had collapsed, including the power grid.

I quietly turned on the generator I had bought that day. Luckily, I had foreseen this and made the necessary preparations. Thankfully, the surveillance in Zhao Yue's house was also running on battery power.

"Wait for me here," Li Chi suddenly said to Zhao Yue.

In the darkness, Li Chi hesitated for a long time. After all, he had secretly been with Zhao Yue for eight years, and he couldn't bear to see her suffer.

Li Chi saw that the zombies had dispersed and there was no activity outside the door. He cautiously opened the door and looked around. He slipped out and stole some food from the neighbors' houses.

I was somewhat surprised that Li Chi would risk his life to find food for Zhao Yue.

Zhao Yue was also taken aback, but quickly took out two pieces of compressed biscuits from her pocket and devoured them while Li Chi was away.

"Ha, this woman is heartless to everyone, selfish to the extreme. She only cares about herself," I mocked.

In the face of danger, even their relationship was so fragile.
