The third day after the outbreak in the apocalypse.

The sirens ceased, and the sounds of gunfire and artillery no longer echoed. The streets and alleys on the television were filled with aimless wandering zombies.

The wails in the neighborhood have never ceased these past few days. Most of the residents have undergone mutations, while a small portion hide in their homes to save their lives.

The air is filled with the foul smell of decaying flesh, and the soil is littered with shattered organs and limbs. The ground is covered in dried bloodstains.

I noticed that the number of zombies actually decreases at noon. They must be afraid of sunlight.

Just as I was thinking about it, my phone started ringing.

"Hello, I'm the manager of the supermarket. Do you remember me?" A man's voice came through the phone.

I was about to hang up, but he quickly said, "Please don't hang up. We live in the same community, and I have run out of food at home. If you have any leftovers from your purchase that day, could you spare me some?"

I narrowed my eyes. Despite being so cautious, someone with ill intentions still targeted me.

"I don't have any! I donated everything!" I quickly hung up the phone, not wanting to get entangled with him.

Soon, he sent me another message, 'Sir, you definitely have some food left. I already know where you live. If you don't give me some, I will lure the zombies to your place!'

I looked at the monitor on the TV in the middle of the living room, and he was standing at my doorstep, smiling wickedly at the camera.

"Help! There's a living person here!" he shouted loudly, banging on my reinforced anti-theft door, creating a loud noise, and then swiftly ran away.

Some of the zombies hiding in this building smelled the scent of a living person and, relying on their keen hearing, started moving towards my doorstep.

Soon, there were roars of zombies and the sound of them banging on the anti-theft door outside. Even through the door, I could smell the putrid stench emanating from the zombies. One zombie had half of its intestines hanging outside its stomach, and several famished zombies were pulling at its intestines and stuffing them into their mouths.

The scene was too bloody and disgusting to describe. I suppressed the nausea rising in my throat.

"Damn it!" I cursed his ancestors in my mind, all eighteen generations of them.

Fortunately, it was noon now, and the zombies didn't know where to hide. There weren't many zombies outside the door, only two or three.

Although the entrance door was reinforced and had an additional anti-theft door, I didn't know how long these zombies would persist at my doorstep, and whether the door could withstand their pounding.

I cautiously retrieved the crossbow I had prepared from my space, aiming it in the direction of the entrance door, ready to fight these zombies with all my might.

The ferocity and strength of the zombies were terrifying. Soon, they broke through the anti-theft door.

My heart was in my throat, and I tightly gripped the crossbow in my hand, never daring to relax for a moment.

As I watched the second door being smashed open, I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't end up feeding the zombies like I did in the previous life.

Suddenly, the sky began to turn blood-red. The color deepened, starting from a small spot in the east and eventually covering the entire sky like a bone-devouring demon.

There was a large reddish-orange cloud that almost covered the entire community. The cloud began to rain blood, withering plants and corroding the ground wherever it fell.

The few zombies outside the door suddenly seemed to be summoned, moving towards that cloud as if attracted by it.

Watching the zombies suddenly leave, my legs turned weak, and I sat on the ground, sweating in the palms of my hands. It was a close call...

Soon, a densely packed horde of zombies gathered beneath the crimson sky, howling and screaming, creating an extremely terrifying scene.

Fierce winds and heavy rain began to assault the city, enveloping me in cold fear and the unknown.

I noticed that the zombies drenched in blood were gradually becoming more agile in their movements.

"Today, our country's experts have discovered that zombies will undergo mutations in the near future. After mutation, their actions will become more agile, and their thinking ability willbecome slightly enhanced. This means that they will become more dangerous and harder to deal with.

I quickly realized that the rain of blood and the crimson sky were somehow connected to this mutation process. The rain seemed to be accelerating the mutation of the zombies, making them more powerful and intelligent.

I had to find a way to protect myself from these mutated zombies. I couldn't rely on luck and the whims of the weather to keep them away from my doorstep.

I decided to reinforce my defenses and fortify my home as much as possible. I gathered all the supplies I had, including wooden planks, nails, and tools, and started barricading the doors and windows.

I nailed wooden planks across the windows, creating a solid barrier that would prevent any zombies from breaking in. I reinforced the doors with additional metal bars and locked them tightly.

Next, I set up traps around my home. I scattered broken glass and sharp objects on the ground near the entrances to deter the zombies from approaching. I also rigged some simple tripwires connected to bells that would alert me if any zombies were trying to get inside.

With my defenses set up, I knew I needed to prepare for the worst-case scenario. I gathered weapons and ammunition, making sure I had enough to defend myself in case of an attack.

I also stocked up on food, water, and medical supplies, anticipating the possibility of being trapped inside my home for an extended period. I knew that I had to be self-sufficient and prepared for any situation.

As I finished my preparations, I glanced outside and saw the mutated zombies still gathered under the crimson sky, their numbers growing by the minute. They seemed more restless and aggressive, sensing the changes happening within them.

I hoped that my reinforced defenses would hold and keep me safe from this new threat. The world had become a terrifying place, and survival was now a daily struggle.

I took a deep breath, knowing that I had done everything I could to protect myself. Now, I had to wait and see how the situation would unfold.
