October 8th, the twentieth day of the zombie outbreak.

Some shadows of zombies have appeared in the village, wandering from the town or the county.

Through the monitor, I can observe their every move and haven't done much cleaning. Zombies are indeed a threat, but they are also a form of protection.

Occasionally, a stray zombie wanders to my doorstep and is shot down by me and Wang Qiang.

On October 9th, our family started taking turns to monitor the activities in the village.

The number of gathered zombies gradually increased, and the sounds and lights in the house decreased accordingly.

I received a message from my ex-wife.

[Li Yi! My mother died, died right in front of me, and I could only watch helplessly. It's all because of you. Just wait... I will make you live in regret and pain!]

Looking at the message on my phone, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief.

I am grateful that fate gave me a chance to be reborn and allowed me to choose to leave such a person. Even without the apocalypse, a lifetime with this kind of person would be a tragic one.

This message also served as a wake-up call for me.

One must not have malicious intents, but one must not be without defenses.

In such a doomsday, human hearts will only become more unpredictable.

On October 10th, the intermittent signal completely disappeared. Only the local network connected to the cameras was still working reliably, while the phones and computers became useless decorations.

I could only occasionally play offline games to pass the time.

Wang Qiang and I started building a defense system for the courtyard.

First, we electrified the surrounding iron plates to serve as defensive barriers when needed. Additionally, we used construction materials to build elevated points around the courtyard for better observation and shooting with bows and arrows.

My father and Uncle Wang seemed to have regained their youthful vigor, full of enthusiasm. Especially in the field of reconnaissance, it was as if it was imprinted in their bones and blood, never forgotten.

On October 15th, the zombie virus outbreak had been going on for nearly a month.

Several consecutive heavy rains failed to clear the gloomy weather; instead, it became even more oppressive.

A few gloomy clouds drifted in the dim sky, and after the sun disappeared into the darkness, only a patch of light could be seen.

Aside from occasional suppressed low growls coming from the village, there were no traces left in the surroundings. The sound of insects and birds had also vanished, as if they had all perished in this struggle against the zombie virus.

We still had plenty of food supplies, and the vegetables in the ground had already grown, but the mood of the whole family was not particularly high. After all, no one knew what the future would hold.

"Is this rain? It's more like mud," Mom complained while wearing protective clothing and cleaning the solar panels with a rag.

"This isn't mud; it's the smoke and exhaust gases released into the sky. They just returned to the surface with the rain. Those self-deceiving ideas of humanity ultimately need to be borne by themselves." I removed the plastic covering the vegetables and rinsed them with well water.

At that moment, Wang Qiang, who was watching the surveillance footage inside the house, rushed out in a panic, his eyes nervously looking at me.

"Yi-ge! A group of people has arrived at the village entrance. It seems like they are coming for us."

"How do you know?" I was surprised.

"Because the leader... is... is Sister-in-law!"
