Thinking about the past few months since I got married, I've eaten so many buns, I even ate two yesterday,

thinking of that pale person on the case, chopped into the bun filling, my stomach churns.

At night, in the darkness, I lay awake, waiting for the living room clock to strike midnight.

My heart feels restless like a trapped beast, tossing and turning, unable to sleep, and very thirsty.

I glance at my husband beside me; he's snoring loudly, sleeping like a pig.

His snoring makes my insomnia even worse. I get up to pour some water, grab the thermos, shake it, and find it empty.

Holding an empty cup, feeling even thirstier, I head downstairs to the living room to get some water.

As I pass my mother-in-law's door, I hear voices. The night is quiet, the sound travels far.

"She's timid; she probably won't tell her brother." It's my mother-in-law's voice.

"To be safe, have Zhang Yi finish her off one night. If she calls the police, we’re all dead." The old man pauses, "As long as we have money, there are plenty of good wives to be found."

"I do like this daughter-in-law. We shouldn’t have forgotten to lock the back door that night." My mother-in-law again.

"Anyone who knows our secret must die." The old man says viciously.

My heart pounds wildly, my whole body trembling, my hands gripping the stair railing tightly, dragging my limp body, and I finally managed to crawl back to my room.
