Thinking back to the suicide note I found at home, I completely lost my composure.

"It was him. He planned to kill Yang Kai for a long time. Otherwise, why would he mimic Yang Kai's handwriting?"

However, Captain Xia frowned, seemingly doubting my words.

I didn't understand why he was still hesitating when the facts were so obvious.

At that moment, a young policeman by the bookshelf suddenly let out an exclamation, indicating he had found another clue. Captain Xia and I immediately walked over.

The young policeman knocked on the partition of the bookshelf and told us that there seemed to be something behind it.

Captain Xia nodded knowingly and immediately called for two people to help move the bookshelf. In fact, there weren't many books on it, and the shelf was hollow, so lifting it wasn't difficult at all.

But what terrified me was that the wall behind the bookshelf was covered with photos of Yang Kai and me — all private, intimate shots of the two of us!

These photos covered half the wall, and Liu Lei had marked a thick, deep "X" over them with a red marker.

I was alarmed and nauseated, feeling an urge to vomit.

Captain Xia spoke resolutely, "Without a doubt, he's been secretly photographing you two all this time."

"Catch him! Captain Xia, I beg you, you must catch him!"

If this still couldn't confirm that Liu Lei was the prime suspect, I would seriously doubt the police's competence. If they didn't help me, I would do it myself.

Regardless of the cost, I swore to make Liu Lei pay with his life!

Perhaps seeing the strong resolve deep in my heart, Captain Xia immediately applied for an arrest warrant based on the clues they'd gathered so far.

However, Liu Lei had fled three days earlier, and his phone was turned off, making it impossible to trace his current location. If he had already left the city, he might never be caught in this lifetime.

But fortunately, after an all-night investigation, Captain Xia and his team found some clues related to Liu Lei.

Captain Xia said the clue was provided by a taxi driver surnamed Chen.

"At 5 PM on August 13th, the day you had an argument with Yang Kai and left home, Mr. Chen said he was heading home for dinner. While on Peace Road, a woman with heavy makeup and a drunken man flagged down his taxi."

Captain Xia calmly explained the relevant information to me.

Because the man reeked of alcohol, Mr. Chen was worried he might puke in the car, so he initially refused. However, the woman said she would pay a high fare, which tempted him.

After the two got in the car, the woman asked Mr. Chen to take them to Guanshan Village in the suburbs where many migrant workers lived. The area was very complex, and coupled with the woman's provocative attire, Mr. Chen assumed she was a night worker and felt some disdain, so he didn't pay much attention to her during the ride.

However, the drunken man seemed a bit strange.

"Mr. Chen said the man was very well-behaved despite the strong smell of alcohol. Once in the car, he quietly leaned on the woman's shoulder and fell asleep without saying a single drunken word."

Mr. Chen, who rarely encountered such quiet drunkards, took a few more looks at the man during the ride.

After the car left the urban area, passing vehicles recklessly turned on their high beams, and one beam of light happened to shine directly on the man's face, allowing Mr. Chen to catch an inadvertent glimpse of the man's full appearance.

"After seeing the police report on the news, Mr. Chen grew increasingly convinced that the drunk man he encountered that night was Liu Lei, so he went to the police station to report it."

That was the whole story.

However, I still didn't understand. If the person Mr. Chen encountered was indeed Liu Lei, who was the woman with him? And what were they doing in Guanshan Village?

Captain Xia added, "We've already sent people to search Guanshan Village. I believe we'll have news soon. Then, everything will come to light."

I truly hoped that would be the case, but Captain Xia didn't fully understand Liu Lei. He had no idea how bold and meticulous this person was.

Knowing that the police would eventually find out he was the killer, not only did he not flee, but he moved openly to the suburbs. This behavior was completely illogical for a normal person.

In my opinion, either Mr. Chen had mistaken the person, or Liu Lei had another plan. There was no third possibility.

But reality once again smacked me in the face.

When Captain Xia called to tell me that Liu Lei had died in a rented room, I was completely dumbfounded.
