It was August 13th, the day I argued with my fiancé Yang Kai.

With the wedding approaching, I discovered he was still entangled with his ex. We had a big fight about it, and I finally decided to pack my things and leave.

His face turned dark as he threatened me, saying if I dared to leave, I would never see him again in this lifetime.

Who could have imagined that day would truly become his death anniversary...

I found Yang Kai's body three days later. As soon as I walked in, I saw him lying on the sofa, pale and lifeless.

There was a suicide note and an empty pill bottle on the coffee table in the living room. It was sleeping pills, and his body was already stiff.

"Yang Kai!"

I knelt in front of the sofa, holding my head and crying bitterly, recalling the scenes from the day we fought. A strong sense of regret surged through me.

I was just angry that he couldn't let go of his ex. Why did he have to take it so hard!

Holding his hand, I cried and apologized, it took me nearly half an hour before I remembered to call the police. No matter what, I had to give Yang Kai's family an explanation.

Who knew that after meticulous inspection, Captain Xia Mu of the Criminal Investigation Team gave me an even more shocking answer—Yang Kai did not commit suicide, he was murdered.

"What?" I looked up at him in disbelief.

"A person who intends to commit suicide wouldn't bother to clean the glass used to drink water after taking sleeping pills."

Captain Xia analyzed reasonably. He said the kitchen was immaculate. If someone were truly in despair and decided to commit suicide, they wouldn’t have cared about the cup they used to take the pills.

It was based on this small detail that he determined Yang Kai was murdered.

As for the suspect, he of course had a primary target, which was me.

"There are no signs of struggle in the room, indicating that the killer was someone the deceased knew well. Only a familiar or close person could make him drink tea spiked with sleeping pills without any defenses."

Captain Xia's gaze was intense and oppressive as he stared at me.

With reddened eyes, I gave a bitter smile. "So, Captain Xia means to say I killed my fiancé?"

Captain Xia frowned, stating that despite being engaged, Yang Kai and I had argued recently, so it wasn’t impossible that I could have killed him in a fit of passion.

His reasoning made me tremble with anger. To clear my name, I had to reveal all the details of the situation.

Yang Kai and I met through work. He pursued me not long after we met. After getting to know each other, we naturally got together and became engaged shortly after.

But I never could have anticipated that he already had someone he liked before me. Due to some reasons, he couldn’t be with her. To appease his parents back home who were pressing for marriage, he came to me.

In reality, he had never severed contact with his ex. When I found out the truth, I was furious and it caused countless arguments.

Every time, he would lower his tone to appease me, but in reality, he treated me like a fool, pushing my patience to the limit. Finally, three days ago, after a huge argument, I left with my suitcase and stayed at a hotel.

Captain Xia implied I was the closest person to Yang Kai, but he had no idea how ridiculous that was to me. Compared to me, the third party was the one he was most intimate with!

Although Yang Kai had more feelings for his ex, he couldn’t promise her marriage. Isn't it more likely that she killed him out of love turned into hatred?

Captain Xia furrowed his eyebrows slightly, seeming to seriously consider my words. After a few seconds, he asked for the identity of his ex.

But how could I know her detailed information?

I only noticed these things when I randomly caught Yang Kai sneaking off to make phone calls in the bathroom late at night. But before I could investigate further, he had already deleted the records and changed his passwords, so I didn’t know who she was either.

Captain Xia stared at me intently, his gaze was a bit complicated.

I could tell he still hadn't dismissed his suspicions of me.

But it was in vain because his colleagues soon proved my innocence.
