This farce finally ended when Li Zikai sent his mother back home.

After Li Zikai sent his mother away, I sat on the sofa and asked, "When did you record your mother's fingerprint?"

We use a fingerprint lock for our house, and I had previously mentioned that only my and Li Zikai's fingerprints were recorded.

But now his mother could actually come in openly and even gave me a slap.

"It was during our housewarming party. My mom hasn't seen such advanced stuff before and wanted me to show her how the fingerprint lock works!" Li Zikai's voice sounded somewhat guilty.

But the next moment, he knelt directly in front of me, "Darling, I was wrong this time. I promise it won't happen again next time!"

I was a bit weary and waved my hand, "Don't let your mother come over again in the future!"

Li Zikai repeatedly agreed, swearing that such a situation would not occur again.

Although we didn't say much to each other afterwards, we both understood that his mother would always be a thorn in our hearts.

This thunderbolt may not explode today or tomorrow, but it will eventually.

And so, we found ourselves in a strange cold war.

I met Li Zikai after we started working. We both work in the CBD area; I work in investment banking, and he is a programmer.

We were introduced by friends, but he claims it was love at first sight for him, and he relentlessly pursued me for a year.

With sincerity, even the hardest stone can be cracked. With his daily companionship, I finally softened.

I am a local, an only child from a prestigious university; he came from a small county and attended a well-known university.

To be honest, my parents were initially not supportive of our marriage.

One reason was his family background, and the other was Li Zikai's mother.

But at that time, I was so infatuated that I felt I couldn't find anyone better than him.

My mother sighed, "But with his family background, entering that household would be a dead end for you."

As it turned out, there are some walls that one must crash into themselves.

Before their marriage, his mother said Li Zikai should take good care of me, but after we got married, she expected me to do all the housework.

When I hired a housekeeper, his mother found ways to make things difficult and eventually drove them away.

I couldn't take it anymore, so I told Li Zikai to send his mother away, or else we would divorce. Reluctantly, he sent his mother away.

Now Li Zikai is 32, reaching the end of a programmer's career, and the company may "optimize" him.

I'm not in a rush, as my salary is decent enough to support us for a few months if he's unemployed.

But his mother's reappearance really slapped the old me hard.

The gap between families is not something that can be easily bridged.

I started to ponder whether there was a need to continue my marriage with Li Zikai.

But before I could make a decision, reality dealt me a harsh blow.
