In front of me stood a big guy wearing a police uniform and a police cap. Surprisingly, he was the bald guy who tried to scam me during the day.

He was also taken aback when he saw me, and I clearly noticed a hint of panic in his eyes.

My mind quickly raced, and I soon realized that the bald guy was real, while the police were fake!

They set up a trap, deliberately targeting the gang of short and skinny guys.

Damn it, how should I handle this? No matter what choice I make, I'm clearly going to offend one side. I'm not stupid. This isn't the outside world. I still have to stay here for two more years. Who knows what might happen.

While I was still hesitating, the voice of the short and skinny guy rang out.

"Brother, tell them that we were just planning to play cards, right?"

He lowered his voice and deliberately emphasized the word "play cards," as if hinting at something.

On the other side, the bald guy disguised as a police officer placed a large hand on my shoulder and said, "Friend, tell us the truth. We are only targeting this operation and won't involve anything else."

Feeling the pressure from the bald guy's hand, I understood his meaning.

I quickly scanned the room, inside and outside. On the side of the short and skinny guy, there were a total of six men and one woman, while on the bald guy's side, including the people standing outside the door, there were four people. If it came down to a fight, the bald guy would be at a disadvantage, but the short and skinny guy didn't dare to act without knowing the bald guy's background.

Both sides stared at me intently, and I even noticed that the bald guy had already gripped his baton.

But...

I quickly calculated in my mind and clenched my teeth.

"Officer, they engage in illegal activities. That man is a pimp, and that woman is pretending to be a prostitute. The others have extorted money from me!"

As soon as I spoke, the short and skinny guy was about to rush towards me, but the bald guy stopped him.

He grabbed the collar of the short and skinny guy and dragged him outside like a little chicken. The other people quickly quieted down under the control of the other two "police officers."

As the bald guy walked past me, he looked at me meaningfully.

About ten minutes later, the short and skinny guy walked back in with an even more unpleasant expression than before. He glared at me fiercely, muttered something without making a sound, and soon after, the gang of the short and skinny guy, including the middle-aged man, left in a hurry.

While I had been cooperating with the bald guy's act, I had been crouching against the wall, and now my feet were a bit numb.

The bald guy patted me on the back and brought a chair over, gesturing for me to sit down.

Until now, my heart was still pounding, unsure whether the bald guy would come back later to cause trouble for me.

He stared at me for a few seconds, then chuckled.

"Kid, you're smart enough. Your mind works quickly, and you know how to adapt to the situation."

At that moment, of course, I didn't dare to be too arrogant. Taking the opportunity, I asked him, "Can I leave now?"

He glanced at me sideways, then waved his hand.

I breathed a sigh of relief, finally feeling a weight lifted off my shoulders.

I had gambled with the bald guy earlier, just thinking that at most, I could get a share of the money from the scam during the day. If I joined forces with the short and skinny guy, the bald guy would definitely not let me off easily, and I didn't know if the short and skinny guy would turn against me. The most crucial point was that since the bald guy dared to deceive the short and skinny guy, even though they had fewer people now, their hidden strength was probably stronger. I understood this reasoning.

Suppressing the ecstatic feeling of escaping danger, I nodded to him and silently got up, quickly walking towards the door.

"Wait!"

Just as I was about to open the door, the bald guy called me back.

My heart skipped a beat. Was he going to change his mind?

I turnedaround cautiously, looking at the bald guy with a mixture of apprehension and curiosity.

"Listen, kid," the bald guy began, his tone serious. "I appreciate your quick thinking back there. You helped me expose those scammers. I owe you one."

I blinked, surprised by his words. I hadn't expected him to acknowledge my assistance.

"I can see you're smart and resourceful," he continued. "If you're interested, I could use someone like you on my team. We deal with all sorts of shady characters, and having someone with your skills could be valuable."

I hesitated for a moment, contemplating the offer. On one hand, joining the bald guy's team could provide me with protection and opportunities in this dangerous environment. On the other hand, it meant getting involved in illicit activities, which could have serious consequences.

Before I could respond, the bald guy added, "Of course, it's your choice. I won't force you into anything. But think about it. There's a lot you can gain by working with us."

His words echoed in my mind as I weighed the risks and rewards. The truth was, I didn't have many options in this place. To survive and thrive, I had to be cunning and adaptable. Joining the bald guy's team could provide me with a level of protection and influence I couldn't achieve on my own.

Finally, I made up my mind and looked the bald guy in the eyes.

"Alright," I said firmly. "I'll join your team."

The bald guy nodded approvingly, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.

"Good choice, kid. Welcome to the team. We'll teach you the ropes and make sure you're well taken care of. Just remember, loyalty is everything."

I nodded, acknowledging his words. I knew I was stepping into a dangerous world, but I was determined to adapt and survive.

With that, I walked out of the room, my mind filled with a mix of apprehension and excitement for the challenges that lay ahead.
