I attended the middle school in the town.

It was a boarding school, and I could go home every Friday.

During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, I unexpectedly met my dad on the bus. He was sitting at the back with a big black bag.

I called out to him before he recognized me and then handed me the remaining half of a lantern cake.

I had very little pocket money and rarely got to eat snacks, so the lantern cake was a rare treat for me at that time. I was very happy and happily followed my dad home.

I wanted to share the lantern cake with my younger brother, but my dad walked straight to the front of me, placed the black backpack in front of my brother, and took out roasted chestnuts, candied haws, mooncakes, and a bag of lantern cakes from inside.

I held the lantern cake behind my back, envying my brother, feeling a deep sense of bitterness in my heart.

My dad also noticed my expression. He awkwardly pointed to the table of food and asked if I wanted to eat more.

My brother proudly wrapped his arms around the food and looked at me, saying, "Sister is older and has so much homework, why eat snacks?"

I forced a smile, replied, and then quickly escaped back to my room.

Thinking about my earlier smug look, I felt incredibly foolish.
