Overnight, the winds of the court changed.

The emperor, who had indulged in pleasures for several years, unexpectedly revealed the demeanor of a wise ruler.

To everyone's surprise, he issued orders one after another, targeting the ministers who were recommended by the current prime minister, and who held high positions but embezzled and enriched themselves.

The surviving ministers speculated that the emperor was driven to take action by the rumors of ministers snatching concubines, and thus decided to continue governing diligently, striving to restore the declining Tang Dynasty to its former glory.

However, Li Linfu, who relied on speculating the emperor's intentions to attain the position of prime minister, recently had a difficult time.

Mostly because he could no longer grasp the emperor's thoughts accurately.

Having no real talent, he focused on flattering the prime minister, pretending to be calm on the outside but filled with worry at home, to the point of losing his beard.

A large number of party members who had attached themselves to him were also filled with anxiety.

In the dead of night,

the Prime Minister's Residence was still brightly lit.

Party Member A, in a panic, said, "Prime Minister Li, is the emperor planning to purge the court?"

Party Member B, still in shock, asked, "What was the profound meaning behind the emperor's decree yesterday, ordering us to witness the execution of corrupt officials?"

Party Member C, trembling, said, "Last night, I dreamt of nothing but heads and blood. Is the emperor going to strike against us?"

All three shouted in unison.

"Prime Minister Li, please say something!"

Li Linfu thought to himself, "You've already said everything, what else can I say?"

But for the time being, in order to avoid being attacked from all sides, he could only put on a brave face and reassure these panicked party members.

"Everyone, just keep your hearts calm," Li Linfu was extremely anxious inside, resorting to empty words, "We have served as officials for many years, and even if we have no accomplishments, we have put in a lot of effort. The emperor will not make things difficult for us."

Although he temporarily appeased the party members with nonsense, Li Linfu had a premonition in his heart.

The emperor, perhaps, was truly changing.

Li Linfu returned to his bedroom with a dizzy and swollen head, and in a half-dreaming state, suddenly remembered.

The current emperor, who now favored his close associates, had once been filled with ambition. He had single-handedly led the chaotic Tang Dynasty to a prosperous era after the passing of Empress Wu.

Li Linfu's eyes opened wide in horror.

In a trance,

he actually saw a gleaming guillotine, already hanging high above his head.
