This is the 98th day since the outbreak of zombies. The stench of the zombies can be described as overwhelming. We owe it all to that zombie monster.

Ever since the day Jia Yang gave it diligent instruction (or brainwashing, to be precise), it has been diligently killing zombies downstairs every day. When there were no more zombies in the neighborhood, it went to the streets nearby and killed indiscriminately. And it piled up the corpses of the zombies it killed next to the banyan tree in the neighborhood.

"Why don't you give it a different task? Let it move these bodies to the garbage dump outside the suburbs. It's not good to have this pile downstairs! At its current rate, the massacre of the city is only a matter of time. Killing one and bringing one back is not a solution." I held a telescope and looked at the zombie corpses piled up into two small mountains downstairs, feeling somewhat worried.

"Good idea!" Jia Yang agreed.

So the next day, when it came up to get its food, Jia Yang asked it to familiarize itself with the route to the garbage dump outside the suburbs by following the drone. At first, it didn't know what the drone was and just found it fun, but it swatted my drone to pieces with a slap.

I reluctantly took out my second drone and said, "This is my last one. Don't smash it like you did with the mosquito... Drones are not cheap."

"Don't worry! Don't worry!" Jia Yang said confidently.

I anxiously watched him train that monster, afraid that my second drone would meet a glorious sacrifice if he made a single mistake.

Fortunately, after it had just been trained, it remembered that it couldn't hit things. After understanding the instructions, it climbed down from the twenty-third floor and walked on the ground, following the flight path of the drone slowly. Its expression seemed a bit strained, as if remembering the route was still a bit difficult for it.

I maneuvered the drone and led it towards the garbage dump outside the suburbs. However, when we were about to arrive, we passed by a run-down residential building, and it stopped and its expression gradually changed from blankness to pain.

Jia Yang and I stared at the footage transmitted back by the drone in puzzlement. Then I silently flew the drone a bit higher, creating a safer distance between it and the monster to prevent a "crash".

It took about five minutes for it to recover from an extreme state of pain. Tears inexplicably fell from its eyes. It seemed to not know why and slowly reached out one tentacle to touch the tears on its cheek, looking at the tears with a puzzled expression.

"What... What's wrong with it? Can zombies actually cry?" I expressed my astonishment.

"It has intelligence... And with intelligence, it should have emotions. So, that's why it's crying. But what caused it to cry?" Jia Yang frowned, also looking puzzled.

I looked at the run-down residential building in the footage and hesitated before speaking, "Could it be... that this place was its home when it was still human?"

Jia Yang turned his head and stared at me for two seconds, then suddenly realized, "Very possible!"

And the following actions of that zombie confirmed my speculation. It moved slowly but purposefully, walking straight into a room at the end of the third floor. The lock on the door had already been broken, and the door was partially ajar. Surprisingly, it didn't forcefully open the door but gently pushed it open.

The furnishings inside the room were old and even a bit shabby. There was only a small single bed and a desk in the thirty-square-meter room, as well as a wooden wardrobe. The room showed signs of being rummaged through; it was probably forcibly entered after the zombie outbreak.

After pushing the door open, it didn't enter but stared blankly at the room, tears streaming down incessantly.

I controlled the drone and flew into the room, noticing a few sheets of paper placed on the worn-out desk, pressed down by a pencil case. I brought the drone closer and saw what caught our eyes: a human experiment agreement. And next to it, partially covered, was a document that, with my years of experience working in hospitals, I immediately recognized as a critical illness notification.

And the party listed as the first part in this human experiment agreement was Lin Yan's research institute, while the second part was a person named Liu Minjie.
