I ran home with Jiayang, the door of the fire escape behind us was being banged by that zombie.

At that moment, I didn't feel like the property fees were too expensive. The quality of the door was really good, that huge monster couldn't break it no matter how hard it tried.

Jiayang and I finally made it back home safely, both of us sitting on the floor in the hallway catching our breath.

"Will you blame me?" I asked suddenly after catching my breath.

He shook his head, "My life was saved by you and Brother Yan. I understand your decision. Brother Yan has a mission to save lives. If Heart Yan follows us, it could be a burden. By me staying behind, at least we still have Xiaogu, our safety factor would be much higher. Sister, you are right. Thank you for trusting me."

He crossed his hands behind his head against the door, sounding somewhat indifferent, "Besides, there are definitely many refugees in the safe zone, whether we can have good food is uncertain. I think we will live more comfortably at home."

His words made me chuckle.

After calming down, I walked to the terrace door and pulled the blackout curtain. In that moment, I saw the head of that monster reaching down from above.

I was so scared that I couldn't breathe, I gestured to Jiayang to keep quiet.

We had turned off the power before leaving the house, so the wire mesh outside was not electrified.

Jiayang seemed to have guessed something, he turned around, leaned against the wall, and reached out to switch on the circuit breaker in the hallway.

About a minute later, I heard the wire mesh being hit by something massive, making a clanging sound. Shortly after, a heart-wrenching roar followed by a loud bang downstairs.

Jiayang and I exchanged glances, then we both crawled to the window with binoculars to look down.

The monster had fallen to the ground due to electrocution, creating a pit with its massive body and weight, crushing several ordinary zombies beneath it.

Tsk tsk tsk, I sighed.

Human intelligence is truly powerful.

Jiayang and I watched for a while, the monster slowly got up from the ground after about ten minutes, its body moving in a more twisted and strange manner. One of its tentacles was broken on the ground, now it only had three left.

Wow, a nine-tailed fox? They say one tail equals one life, but this thing loses a life for each tentacle? It survived a fall from the twenty-third floor, quite something.

Its head began to turn slowly again, looking up. Jiayang and I quickly shrunk below the window, communicating silently with our eyes.

- Did it see us?

- I... I don't think so?

Jiayang and I crouched by the window, not daring to move. After about ten minutes of silence outside, we slowly stood up.

As soon as we stood up, we came face to face with the monster through the glass window and wire mesh.

This time, we couldn't help it.

- "Oh my god!"

- "It definitely saw us earlier!"

We both screamed in the room, while the monster outside stared at us with its eyes spinning for a while, seemingly clinging to the wall without wire mesh, peering into our house.

Its gaze gradually turned fierce, the desire to eat us was undisguised. So, it extended a tentacle to try and pull at the wire mesh.

Half a minute later.

- Boom!

Both of us were stunned for a moment, then we realized the outside was empty. We looked down again with binoculars, unsurprisingly, the monster had fallen again, crushing a few more zombies and now only had two tentacles left.

We fell silent for a while.

"Didn't Brother Yan say this thing had intelligence?"

"Maybe... the intelligence of a six-year-old?"

"It does look like it's not very bright..."

"It seems like we can really relax and lie flat at home."
