Lin Yan was responsible for opening the door of the fire escape and sending Xiao Gu into the corridor before locking the door and returning.

Originally, we wanted Xiao Gu to directly take the elevator card and drive to the research institute from the underground garage, but I rejected this plan. If something unexpected happens and the elevator card is lost or obtained by someone with ill intentions, we would be in great danger.

Jia Yang connected the images seen by Xiao Gu's eyes to the laptop. Lin Yan and I sat on either side of him, watching him control Xiao Gu as he descended the stairs and entered the underground garage.

There were several wandering zombies in the garage. They turned their heads towards Xiao Gu upon hearing the sound, but stopped their steps three steps away from Xiao Gu. It seemed like they had lost their target and began wandering aimlessly.

I was puzzled, "Aren't they sensitive to sound? Why aren't they attacking Xiao Gu?"

"When I controlled Xiao Gu to go out that day, I also noticed this issue. But I don't know what's going on," Jia Yang said as he quickly manipulated the keyboard while shrugging his shoulders.

I looked at Lin Yan, who was frowning at the screen. "I think they might not only be sensitive to sound but also able to distinguish human scent," he said.

Jia Yang looked at the screen and nodded in agreement, saying, "I think that makes sense. If they only attack sound sources indiscriminately, many machines would have been chewed into pieces by them, of course, if their teeth are strong enough."

Jia Yang skillfully controlled Xiao Gu to find a small van with the driver's seat door open. There were some scattered human body fragments on the ground.

"I found this car when I controlled Xiao Gu to search for supplies that day. The car was parked at the supermarket entrance, and the owner had turned into a zombie. His upper body was slumped on the driver's seat, and the lower body was missing. I had Xiao Gu drag him down and took the car," Jia Yang explained while describing the events of that day. Under Lin Yan's guidance, he controlled Xiao Gu to drive to the research institute.

On the way, we noticed many abandoned cars on the roadside or crashed cars blocking the road. Lin Yan instructed Jia Yang to change the route, but Jia Yang's hands controlling the keyboard stopped, and he stared blankly at the computer screen.

"What's wrong?" I noticed something was off and patted his shoulder, asking.

His eyes suddenly turned red, and he pointed at the SUV that had collided with a small truck on the screen. "That's my family's car..."

Both Lin Yan and I fell into silence.

Jia Yang controlled Xiao Gu to get out of the car and walked to the side of the SUV to look inside. The car was empty.

Tears kept flowing from his eyes, but no sound came out of his mouth.

He slowly controlled Xiao Gu to walk around the car. On the other side of the car, he discovered a young zombie with red eyes feasting on another adult female zombie. Beside them was a zombie corpse that had been gnawed beyond recognition. The brain matter splattered on the ground had already dried up, and one could vaguely see that the body was wearing a black sportswear.

The female zombie had not died yet, her eyes were also bloodshot, indicating that both zombies had entered the frenzied stage. Surprisingly, the female zombie did not resist the young zombie on her body. Through the high-definition images transmitted back by Xiao Gu, I seemed to see tears glistening in the female zombie's eyes.

Jia Yang couldn't control himself anymore in front of the computer screen. He buried his face in his hands and cried loudly, his cries filled with despair. He intermittently said to us, "That's my younger brother... and my... mom and dad..."
