Around 2 am, I sat by the floor-to-ceiling window in the bedroom, looking at the online Weibo topics about this "epidemic". Lin Yan, who was exhausted beyond measure, was sound asleep on the bed.

Online, people were panicking about this epidemic and water pollution issue, saying all sorts of things. Some even mentioned the possibility of zombies appearing, and that the end of the world had arrived, but most people didn't believe it.

All of a sudden, there was a piercing female scream outside the window, breaking the midnight silence.

I ran to the terrace to have a look, and saw a woman on the neighboring building's terrace, screaming in terror with wide eyes, as if she had seen an extremely horrifying sight.

I noticed that the lights in a few buildings had come on, and some residents, like me, had come out to the terrace to see what was happening.

At that moment, a dark purple male zombie slowly emerged from the woman's house, moving sluggishly, more like shifting than walking. The woman's hands were pushing on the edge of the terrace, calling for help.

I heard nearby residents shouting.

"Hey bro, talk nicely! Don't abuse your wife so late at night. We all want to sleep."

I was so scared that I couldn't make a sound, even though I had heard Lin Yan and me describe it, seeing it with my own eyes still made me tremble with fear.

My legs went weak as I watched the zombie pounce on the woman. I saw his long fangs sink into the woman's neck, blood spraying out. The two of them, one person and one zombie, entwined, the woman struggling frantically. Then they both fell from the 23rd floor, one after the other.

Residents cursed in the night sky, then shouted loudly: "Call the police! Call the police! It's a matter of life and death!"

I leaned against the terrace rail, looking down, only able to see two tiny figures overlapping. The zombie lying on top briefly lost its ability to move, but soon began to slowly crawl back up.

The 23rd floor doesn't kill them.

Someone with a torch ran downstairs, but stopped when they were about to reach, probably a security guard, and I faintly heard him shouting loudly below: "Run! Run!"

More and more lights came on in the neighborhood, the lower-floor residents evidently in an uproar, with noisy commotion and screams echoing.

I suddenly felt a tap on my shoulder, causing me to nearly collapse in fright.

It was Lin Yan, he caught me.

"What's wrong?"

I looked at him, and my tense nerves seemed to be released instantaneously. I burst into tears in his arms, pointing at the blood-splattered terrace of the neighboring building: "Zombies...Zombies...Zombies are here!"
