Finally able to break free from the bondage of the hemp rope, I couldn't wait to move my limbs and feel the comfort of stretching. I couldn't help but exclaim, "Long live freedom."

Perhaps I had been lying down for too long, and my back was starting to feel a bit itchy. I scratched it with my hand and ignored it.

Compared to this insignificant itch, the pain of the braces returning to my mouth was truly tormenting.

"Chen Xu, let's discuss something."

"Go ahead."

I looked at his serious expression and furrowed my brows, making a serious proposal.

"Can you not tighten the wires so much next time?"

"If your teeth are aligned, there's no need to tighten them."

Chen Xu looked at me speechlessly, then turned and walked towards the window.

A Venetian blind was pulled up, and a red truck stood quietly on the side of the street. Scattered around it were a few bodies.

For a moment, I couldn't tell if the red of the truck was paint red or...blood red.

Chen Xu placed a hand on my shoulder and gently comforted me with a rub.

"Smack!"

"Ah..."

A terrified face suddenly appeared outside the glass, and he looked at us with a delighted expression, repeating, "Save me," nonstop.

I looked at the blood stains on his clothes and couldn't bear it. I was about to tell him to go to the main entrance when a figure behind him rushed towards him like a madman.

Chen Xu immediately dropped the blind and gently embraced me without making a sound.

The sound of flesh tearing continued for a while, finally drowned out by two crisp gunshots.

The reception phone in the hall rang, and after contemplating for a moment, Chen Xu took my hand and walked to press the speakerphone button.

"Hello, we're military personnel sent by the army to guard the streets. We just arrived today and saw people inside the dental clinic, so we came to ask about the situation. How many people are inside?"

"There are currently two people inside."

"We'll drive to the entrance later. Be ready, and we'll take you to a safe area outside the suburbs."

"Officer, how are the people rescued to the safe area yesterday?"

"I haven't received any information from the safe area, only the rescue mission."

I exchanged a glance with Chen Xu, feeling uneasy.

"Officer, it's probably not safe in the safe area. The people bitten at night turn back to normal during the day and become zombies again at night. The rescue truck that arrived here yesterday morning only had a few bodies left around it."

"Is the information accurate?" The voice on the other end sounded panicked.

Another hoarse male voice suddenly spoke, "How can you be sure?"

"I saw a person who turned into a zombie during the day in the clinic and returned to normal at night."

"Stay inside and don't come out. We'll..."

The phone was abruptly hung up, and at the same time, gunshots began to ring outside.

Immediately after, the front door began to be pounded.

I looked at the clock, and now there was less than half an hour until six o'clock.

The people outside the door remained silent, only banging their heads against the door. The rolling shutter had already been deformed from the impact, and it was afraid that it wouldn't withstand such pounding for long.

"It seems like they were attracted by your meaty scent." I chuckled and teasingly remarked to Chen Xu.

He smiled helplessly, rubbing my head.

Unconsciously, the two of us had become accustomed to each other's intimate actions.

"Do you want to go out and give it a try?" I suddenly became interested and asked him.

"Have you become fearless and brave after succeeding in your transformation?"

"I hope Sir Shen can understand the limitations of my mortal body."

I had never seen him drag his voice like this before, so I found it amusing. I used my finger to lift his chin and said with a teasing tone:

"Then call me 'sister,' and I'll help you, this useless mortal, deal with the zombies outside."

Unfortunately, Chen Xu didn't take my bait:

"Doyou really think I can defeat them?"

I shrugged and replied, "Well, we won't know until you try. Plus, it could be a good opportunity for you to test your newfound abilities."

Chen Xu sighed and looked at me with a mix of amusement and exasperation. "You really have a knack for getting me into trouble, don't you?"

I grinned mischievously. "What are friends for?"

Before he could respond, a loud crash echoed through the clinic as the front door finally gave way to the relentless pounding. The sound of growls and shuffling footsteps filled the air.

Chen Xu and I exchanged a determined glance, knowing that we had to face the impending danger together. We made our way to the back of the clinic, where a storage room held various dental supplies and equipment.

"Alright, let's see what we can use to defend ourselves," I said, scanning the room for any potential weapons.

Chen Xu grabbed a sturdy dental chair and wielded it like a shield, while I found a box of dental tools that could serve as makeshift weapons.

The sound of the approaching zombies grew louder, and we braced ourselves for the confrontation. As the first zombie stumbled into the room, Chen Xu swung the dental chair with surprising strength, knocking it to the ground.

I lunged at another zombie, wielding a dental mirror as a makeshift dagger, aiming for its head. With a swift thrust, I managed to pierce its skull, incapacitating it.

We fought with desperation and determination, using our wits and whatever resources we could find. The clinic became a battleground as we fended off the relentless horde of zombies.

Time seemed to blur as we fought, each moment merging into the next. Adrenaline coursed through our veins as we dodged, parried, and struck back against the undead assailants.

Eventually, we managed to clear the room and catch our breath. The sound of the ongoing battle outside indicated that the fight was far from over. But for now, we had a momentary respite.

I looked at Chen Xu, his face smeared with blood and dirt, but his eyes filled with determination. We had come a long way since that fateful day when I stumbled upon his transformation. Together, we had faced numerous challenges and dangers, and we had grown stronger, both individually and as a team.

"Ready for round two?" I asked, a mix of exhilaration and exhaustion in my voice.

Chen Xu nodded, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Let's show them what we're made of."

With renewed determination, we braced ourselves for the next wave of undead attackers, ready to fight for our survival and the hope of a brighter future amidst the chaos.
