Soon it was New Year.

It was also the most desolate New Year.

We cut some "Fu" characters to decorate the house, a few people got up early to make dumplings and cook some dishes, even caught a fish from the pond to make a braised fish dish. The New Year's Eve dinner was quite decent.

After dinner, we watched the New Year's variety show as we did in previous years, and the sound from the TV dispelled the loneliness of the moment.

In the past, when watching the variety show, we would mostly criticize it for not being good, feeling bored watching a group of people singing on stage. But now, watching those programs, we couldn't help but shed tears, as those were actually the best days.

One year and three months into the apocalypse.

The temperature began to drop drastically, from over twenty degrees the day before to below zero overnight. It started snowing heavily outside, and within a few hours, a thick layer of snow accumulated on the ground.

The three of us excitedly ran to the rooftop to collect the snow.

When the snow melted, we would have water for our daily life again.

The heavy snowfall lasted for several days, and the temperature kept getting lower. We had already harvested the vegetables on the rooftop, and there were no plans to plant more, as the indoor temperature was also very low.

Due to the lack of solar power caused by the snow, the limited electricity was used to power an electric blanket for the three of us to sit on the bed and play cards, covering ourselves with the blanket.

Since the electricity was limited, and the temperature was very low, we turned off all the refrigerators. Following an online method, we made a large ice storage on the rooftop using ice to store chicken, duck, fish, and meat.

At noon, we made a hotpot with the tomato sauce made before and some dried vegetables. We sweated profusely while eating.

Although more than a year had passed, we still had plenty of supplies.

The vegetables we grew on the rooftop could basically sustain us.

The only items that were consumed relatively quickly were flour and rice.

We still had plenty of meat and dried goods leftover.

It allowed us to have hotpot meals occasionally.

Other than being unable to go out, life was still decently comfortable.

The third year after the apocalypse.

The temperature stayed around zero degrees, and the number of zombies wandering in the community decreased. The air also became increasingly fresh, and the disgusting smell that used to pervade the area gradually disappeared.

We were basically self-sufficient in terms of food. Although the temperature was quite low, the sun was good during the day, and we had enough electricity.

We built a sunroom on the rooftop, growing enough vegetables for ourselves, so we no longer had to worry about food.

The fourth year after the apocalypse.

The roads in the community were completely engulfed in weeds, with no signs of human activity. Even zombies were rare to see.

Grass as high as a meter grew in the crevices of the rocks on the road, gradually burying some small paths. I even saw a rabbit inside once.

We were discussing how to utilize this time to exercise. After all, the immune system would weaken if a person didn't go out for exercise for a long time.

Suddenly, we heard a few gunshots from the distance,

We immediately became alert.

The gunshots were not far away, it seemed like someone was shooting. Looking in the direction of the sound, we saw two figures driving a car from the side of a small road, coming towards us at a fast speed.

At this distance, we couldn't clearly see who they were. We only saw the two of them quickly deal with a few zombies downstairs, then quickly dashed into the building.

After a short while, we saw the two individuals coming out, escorting a woman and a child, one on each side.

I thought that apart from us, there were no other survivors in the community. It had been three whole years. How did this person manage to survive? Moreover, they even evaded the search from that group two years ago.

The two individuals left the community with the woman and child, without pausing. It seemed like they had come specifically to pick them up.

It turned out that when we bought the house, the salesperson mentioned that a leader's family member also lived in this community.

It looked like the one being taken away this time was that person.

So, maybe the government hadn't completely collapsed, and there was still hope.

The noise of the car engine was too loud, and soon a large group of zombies surrounded us from all directions. Perhaps due to lack of food for a long time, the movements of the zombies were noticeably slower than when the apocalypse began. The people in the car quickly drove away.

Two months later, a drone playing a broadcast flew into the community.

"The zombie virus has been studied, and a vaccine has been developed. The vaccine will be distributed in batches to each community. Survivors please take the vaccine and wait for a while. The government is clearing the zombies in all areas, and soon we will be able to restore order."

The drone circled the community a few times, dropping a few packages and then flew out gradually, the sound fading away.

As we went down to pick up the vaccine, we suddenly saw more than a dozen people coming out.

It turned out that in addition to us, there were other survivors in our community.

This realization truly touched us.

Two months after receiving the vaccine, the government informed that the zombies had been completely eliminated.

When we stepped out of the house, we all cried tears of joy.

When communication was restored, we immediately contacted our best friend's parents.

They had been living self-sufficiently in the countryside and were doing very well.

For us, this disaster had truly passed.
