I sat by the window, watching the bugs wandering around downstairs.

There are probably not many living people left in the city. It seems that the whole city has been taken over by these dreadful bugs, and even the lower floors of the buildings have begun to be filled with smaller bugs.

It has been a month since the massive outbreak of the bug disaster, and many residents have run out of food.

I hesitated whether to send some food to the nearby residential buildings.

The extra food I have now is not only enough for me and Yan Shi to survive for a longer period of time, but there is even some left.

Moreover, with the points I obtained from the last mission, it should be no problem to exchange for some weapons and protective clothing.

But reason tells me that in the current doomsday, it is still most important to protect myself.

I lowered my head in a dilemma. I don't know if this counts as an overflow of maternal love, but I really can't bear to watch everyone die.

In my neighborhood, there are elderly grandpas and grandmas. Even though we don't meet often, they have always treated me well.

Occasionally, when I'm busy with work and have no time to cook, the grandpas and grandmas always warmly invite me to have a meal.

Perhaps sensing my low mood, Yan Shi, who doesn't usually communicate much with me, suddenly walked over and patted my shoulder.

"What's wrong? You look so bitter and resentful?"

I gave him a disdainful look. "What do you know? This is called careful consideration!"

"Okay, okay, careful consideration. Tell me, what's making you ponder so deeply?"

I poured out everything that just happened to him and then looked up at him.

He touched his nose. "Let me ask you a question. If this city, or even this country, were to be wiped out because of this bug disaster, leaving only you behind, would you still feel that staying alive is the most important? Or, would you be happy and content?"

I fell silent for a moment. I didn't need much thought. I knew my answer would definitely be no.

Many times, living is not just for oneself.

Family, friends, loved ones—these are not easily abandoned. Even learning and work, the things that usually annoy us, might make us feel immensely nostalgic once we lose them someday.

If one day, everyone were to leave me behind, and I was the only one left alone, I dare not imagine what kind of life that would be.

I nodded, indicating that I knew what to do.

I returned to my room and then entered the space, selecting two suitable sets of equipment.

I changed into my own set and walked out of the room, throwing the other set to Yan Shi.

"You'll accompany me to deliver the supplies."

Although I said it so casually, he was surprised and opened his mouth wide, asking in a dazed manner:

"Were you just struggling with this?"

I didn't change my expression. "Yes."

"But I didn't agree!"

I pouted. "But you just said that being alone is boring. So, if something happens to me, it'll be so dull for you to be alone!"

He gave me a disdainful look. "That was a rhetorical question. It's your own answer, not mine."

I pretended to be aggrieved and lowered my head. "How can you bear to let a weak woman face a bunch of dreadful bugs alone?"

Seeing that he seemed to waver, I followed up with another attack. "You see, I saved your life last time, didn't I? Consider this as you repaying me."

Hearing this, he could only reluctantly nod his head.
