We lived a carefree life for a month. During this period, some people came knocking on the door, but when they heard the sound of zombies inside the room, they scurried away.

Two weeks after the zombie outbreak, the water and electricity were completely cut off, and the internet was down. We could no longer receive messages from the homeowner group.

We couldn't contact our parents and friends either.

Considering the possibility of a power outage, I had precooked two bags of rice in the rice cooker day and night. Then I made some into crispy rice and followed a cooking tutorial to make other types of dry rations that could be stored.

As for vegetables, we had finished them long ago.

All the preserved meat and sausages were cooked, so we could eat them anytime.

They were just too salty.

After a month without washing our hair or taking a bath, Yanzi and I finally decided to cut our hair short.

But even so, the water was running out, and the cat food for Milk Tea was almost gone.

I initially thought we could last for three or four months, but now it seemed that one month was already the limit.

At noon, Yanzi played with her food in the bowl and suddenly spoke up.

"Qianqian, can we still wait for rescue?"

To be honest, I didn't know either.

"We have to trust the government, trust the country."

Yanzi suddenly burst into tears, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"Qianqian, this is Chengdu, a new first-tier city. Even if we're not in the city center, we're still in Chengdu. It's been a month, and we haven't seen or heard anything from the military."

I knew Yanzi wouldn't be so pessimistic if it weren't for the scarcity of food and water.

But what could I do? I was just an ordinary person.

"Let's wait a little longer. We'll definitely make it."

Yanzi ate her crispy rice in silence.

At night, we sat on the bed, preparing for the worst.

In the past month, there were many more zombies downstairs, and I had lost count.

"Yanzi, my car is parked in the basement, and it has a full tank of gas. It hasn't been started for a month, but it should still work. However, I left the car keys in the room..."

"Even if we have a car, where can we go? We're not familiar with the traffic conditions. We don't know if we can drive or if the roads are passable. I have an electric scooter parked on the first floor, which we could use, but there are too many zombies on the ground floor."

"Well, let's forget about the electric scooter. Anyway, we have to get out of here. Staying here will only lead to death. Besides, I'm a skilled driver, so don't worry."

Indeed, my driving skills were really good!

"What about the keys?"

"I've already thought of that. I plan to tie a rope to the bathroom doorknob, with the other end of the rope at the position of the small balcony. After we lure them into the bathroom, I'll pull the rope, and the bathroom door will close. We can then lock them from my room to the bathroom."

"But what if the rope gets stuck..."

I was stunned. That was something I hadn't considered.

"It shouldn't happen."

I made up my mind.

"And what should I do?"

"When you hear the sound of the door closing, come out of the room immediately and push the sofa against the door."

"I'm not that strong..."

I sighed. I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of such an important detail!

"Then you pull the rope, and I'll go and push the sofa."

She hesitated for a moment.

"No, let me do the pushing."

"Don't worry, once I tie the rope to the railing, I'll come to help you right away."

"Okay."

After we discussed and packed all the remaining dry rations, cat food, and water in bottles into a backpack.

Unfortunately, we only had one backpack.

We placed the backpack at the entrance ofour room, ready to grab it and make our escape at any moment.

We held each other's hands tightly, trying to find some comfort and courage in our touch.

The night was eerily quiet, except for occasional distant groans of the zombies. The darkness outside our window seemed impenetrable, hiding the horrors that lurked within.

We waited for what felt like an eternity, our hearts pounding with anticipation and fear.

Finally, we heard the sound of shuffling footsteps coming up the stairs. The zombies were approaching.

I quickly tied the rope to the bathroom doorknob, making sure it was secure. I glanced at Yanzi, and she nodded, her face determined.

As the zombies reached our floor, their moans grew louder and more menacing. They were just outside our door.

I opened the door to my room and stepped out, motioning for Yanzi to stay inside.

The zombies turned towards me, their vacant eyes fixed on their prey. I led them towards the bathroom, carefully stepping back to avoid their grasping hands.

Once they were inside the bathroom, I pulled the rope, and the door slammed shut. I quickly locked it from the outside, trapping the zombies inside.

Yanzi emerged from the room, pushing the heavy sofa against the door with all her strength. I rushed to her side, helping her secure the barricade.

We both took a moment to catch our breath, the realization of what we had just done sinking in.

"We did it," I whispered, a mix of relief and disbelief in my voice.

Yanzi looked at me, her eyes filled with gratitude and determination.

"Now let's get out of here," she said, her voice steady.

We grabbed the backpack and silently made our way towards the small balcony. Carefully, we climbed over the railing and onto the ledge, our hearts pounding in our chests.

The streets below were filled with hordes of zombies, their presence a constant reminder of the danger that surrounded us.

But we had a plan, and we were determined to survive.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves.

"Hold my hand," I said to Yanzi, reaching out to her.

She took my hand, and together we jumped off the ledge, landing on the ground below.

With the backpack strapped securely to my back, we ran towards my car parked in the basement.

The journey ahead was uncertain and fraught with danger, but we had each other, and that gave us hope.

As we sped away from the building, the city lights fading behind us, we knew that our survival depended on our resilience, resourcefulness, and the unbreakable bond between us.

We were determined to find a safe haven, to reunite with loved ones if possible, and to rebuild our lives in a world ravaged by the zombie apocalypse.

Our journey had just begun.
