I was still waiting for his message.

"How did you know I was here?"

I regretted asking as soon as the words left my mouth.

He is a criminal police, tracking my whereabouts should be easy.

"Didn't you post on your Moments?"

Officer Ding turned and walked straight to the oil drum.

I paused, recalling that I did post on my Moments before going to bed, saying where I was trapped during the typhoon.

"How did you come here?"

Did he see something related to the case in the photo I just sent him?

"Because you captured a photo of a charred body."

Officer Ding, wearing special gloves, picked up that piece from the oil drum.

I instinctively took two steps back.

My luck was really something else.

To shelter from a typhoon and still encounter a ghost.

Oh no, I mean, encounter a dead body.

Officer Ding brought over three cars of people, they conducted a thorough search and found many charred body parts in this unfinished building.

My boss woke up from his dream, seeing over a dozen police officers moving around him, scared and thinking he did something terrible, the police were coming to arrest him.

Having been through this before, I remained calm.

But, since learning that people had died in the unfinished building, the surroundings felt eerie, making my legs tremble slightly.

Both my boss and I were taken to the municipal bureau, where we honestly explained how we ended up in that unfinished building.

"Two people died, one of them is Ji Xiao. Thanks to the photo you took in the unfinished building, the case has made great progress."

Officer Ding came over with some food to chat with me.

"So, the unfinished building was the scene of Ji Xiao's murder?"

I didn't know what to talk to him about, so I just mumbled some nonsense.

"It should be. The other person who died is a man, we suspect he was killed and then burnt."

Officer Ding devoured his food, and I doubted he had eaten anything all day.

"Was Ji Xiao killed by this man?"

I tentatively voiced my question.

"I don't think so. According to the information we currently have, there were at least four people at the scene of the crime, so, the situation is even more complicated than before. If we dig deeper, this case is likely to become a major international case."

After Officer Ding finished speaking, he sighed.

"What? Complicated?" I asked casually.

"No." Officer Ding took a big gulp of ice water, then continued, "Once this case becomes a major international case, it will be handed over to the provincial authorities, and I and Lao Li can't continue the investigation."

"You can apply to continue working on the line you haven't finished yet! Anyway, it's for solving the case, who solves it doesn't matter, right? Look at me, by chance I provided you with a clue, and ended up in the station several times."

I tried to comfort him.

"True." Officer Ding smiled as if he had figured things out, "When the case is solved, I'll treat you to a big meal."

"Thanks!" I politely accepted his invitation.

Actually, whether there is a big meal or not, I don't really care. I just want to get rid of the suspicion as soon as possible and regain my true freedom.

Although staying at Officer Ding's house for free saved me some money, being invisibly monitored by the police, feeling like I've committed a grave crime, and possibly being taken into custody at any moment, life was truly tough.

"I forgot to ask you, last time you said the landlord in Litan New Village saw Ji Xiao two months ago, but she died three months ago, have you found out the reason for this?"

I had always been considering this matter, feeling it was too odd.

"Is it possible that he saw someone who wasn't Ji Xiao at all?"

Officer Ding responded to my question with a question.

"Of course, it's possible, but, for him to misidentify someone, Ji Xiao must look very similar to the person he saw."

I expressed my opinion.

"Yesterday, the forensic pathologist confirmed Ji Xiao's time of death based on the charred body parts, we have also watched the surveillance video in Litan New Village many times, as you said, to misidentify someone, there is only one possibility, Ji Xiao and the person the landlord saw turned out to be a duplicate copy."

Officer Ding's expression became serious.

I was even more puzzled, why would the perpetrator find someone who looks exactly like the victim to impersonate her?

Was it necessary? Ji Xiao was already dead.

Did they want to shift the blame to her? Then escape and live carefreely?

What about me? Not only could I not live carefreely, but I almost lost my life.
