My younger brother has been missing for half a year. My parents often go out to search for him, but there's still no result.

However, one day, my grandmother suddenly came to our rented house from her hometown. She had a fearful look in her eyes and told me with a terrified face.

"Xiaoxi, don't trust your parents. They are not your real parents. Remember that. Don't trust them."

I didn't understand why I couldn't trust them. But before my grandmother could tell me more, my parents came back from work.

My grandmother sealed her lips and didn't say anything anymore, but her eyes remained filled with fear.

I had to pretend to be careless and happily welcome them back.

"Mom and Dad, why did you both come back together today?"

Although I had a smile on my face, my grandmother's words took root in my heart.

My mother supported her forehead and looked pale. But she forced herself to answer my question with a spirited tone.

"Someone called in the afternoon, claiming to have seen your younger brother. We went to check, but..."

I knew my mother looked pale because she had a glimmer of hope that was shattered again. I couldn't bring myself to say anything. I could only support her and suggest she take a rest.

My father's face also looked bad, but as a man, he had to bear more pressure. He forced a smile, comforting me and patting my head.

"Haven't had dinner yet? What do you want to eat? Dad will make it for you."

"How about noodles? Dad, you've worked hard."

I saw my father immediately put down his things and went to the kitchen without even looking at my grandmother. He almost bumped into her.

I quickly pulled my grandmother aside. I spoke helplessly.

"Dad, you almost bumped into Grandma."

However, my father froze and looked at me strangely.

"Grandma? Isn't she in the countryside? Do you miss her? Dad will take you to visit Grandma for a few days when I have time."

After saying that, my father turned and entered the kitchen, leaving me in shock. I then looked at my grandmother.

I thought my mother didn't notice Grandma's arrival because she was too preoccupied with missing my brother. But it turned out that Grandma was right in front of her, yet she couldn't see her.

However, just as my father went to the kitchen, my grandmother grabbed my wrist and took me to the corridor.

She no longer looked fearful but had a pleading expression as she gazed at me.

"Xiaoxi, you must not trust your parents. Promise Grandma, okay?"

Looking at my grandmother's pitiful appearance, I could only helplessly nod. But my mind was a mess.

Why couldn't I trust my parents? What does it mean that they are not my real parents?
