My girlfriend, Shen Shuyao, has been working overtime recently. She says she's working on an important project that, once completed, will lead to a promotion and a raise.

From the bottom of my heart, I'm happy for her, so I've been leaving work early every day and coming up with different ways to cook at home, just so she can have a balanced diet.

Tonight, when she came back, it was almost midnight, and I was dozing off on the sofa.

"Baby, you're back! You've worked hard. Today, I made your favorite sweet and sour spare ribs. Try them."

She didn't share with me excitedly about what happened today, as usual. She just said casually, "I've already eaten tonight. You go to bed."

Then she sat on the sofa, picked up her tablet, and got busy again.

I thought she was just tired, so I got up and went to the kitchen to heat up some milk for her.

"Baby, are you too tired? Have a glass of warm milk, then take a hot bath, and I'll give you a massage."

Impatiently, she rolled her eyes and picked up her phone and went into the bedroom.

I hung my head in disappointment, sighed, and said to myself, "She must be tired. Everything will be better once she gets promoted."

"Ding!"

The tablet beeped, and she hadn't logged out of her WeChat.

I casually glanced at it, and her good friend Lin Xiang sent her a message saying, "Your boyfriend Lu Tingli is always busy in the kitchen, and his financial situation is just so-so. He's also getting uglier. It's better to go for that Wang boss recently, even though he's a bit older than you, but he's the boss!"

Shen Shuyao was typing on the other side, and I felt my heart sink.

The next moment, she replied, "Let's talk about it later."

Instantly, my heart turned cold. She had not only considered it, but she had already been unfaithful to me, even though we had been together from school to society.

I did all the household chores, cooking delicious meals every day, just to make her comfortable when she was with me.

I had heard of that Mr. Wang. He was the client for her project, in his forties, and probably had a family.

I smiled bitterly. Did she prefer to intrude on someone else's family rather than be with me?

Recalling how she had been working later and later recently, I suddenly felt the need to investigate. I had trusted her too much before.

I carefully looked through her WeChat Moments and saw photos from her company's team-building activity a few days ago.

When I zoomed in, I suddenly saw a hand under the table touching her leg. It was obviously a man's hand, and her smile in the picture was radiant.

My heart sank. She wasn't hesitating; she was having an affair.

While her WeChat was still logged in, I took screenshots of her conversation with Lin Xiang and saved the contact information of Mr. Wang.

Looking at Shen Shuyao sleeping soundly, I smirked.

I had given my whole heart and effort, and in return, I was betrayed. I wouldn't let her off easily.

Back in the bedroom, she was lying in bed, browsing her phone. When she saw me enter, a hint of disdain flashed in her eyes.

"Look at you, you never bother to take care of yourself. When we first got together, at least you looked presentable. Now you have a scruffy beard and smell of cooking fumes."

"Shen Shuyao, do you still love me?"

She paused, her face showing some panic, then questioned, "What do you mean by asking me that? If I didn't love you, could we have been together for so many years? Many capable men wanted to be with me, but I firmly rejected them. Hey, do you have someone else outside? Is that why you're saying this?"

I sneered. She tried to turn the tables, but I had to play my part.

I took her hand and looked at her affectionately.

"Shuyao, you're the only one in my heart. I only want to be with you forever. If I'm lacking in some way, I'llwork on improving myself. But I hope you can be honest with me too."

She seemed relieved by my words and hugged me tightly.

"Lu Tingli, I'm sorry. I've been under a lot of pressure at work, and I didn't mean to neglect you. I promise, once this project is over, I'll make it up to you."

I nodded, pretending to accept her explanation. Deep down, I knew I couldn't trust her anymore.

Over the next few days, I acted as though everything was normal. I continued to prepare meals for her and be supportive, but behind the scenes, I was gathering evidence.

I hired a private investigator to follow her and collect proof of her affair. It was painful to watch the footage of her being intimate with another man, but I needed the evidence to confront her.

Finally, I had enough evidence to confront her with the truth. I invited her to a quiet restaurant, hoping that the calm environment would encourage her to be honest.

As we sat down, she looked at me with a smile.

"Lu Tingli, thank you for bringing me here. I've been so stressed lately, and this is a nice break."

I took a deep breath and looked into her eyes.

"Shen Shuyao, I know about your affair."

Her smile faded, and she looked at me in shock.

"What are you talking about, Lu Tingli? Don't make baseless accusations."

I pulled out the evidence I had gathered and placed it on the table.

"These are not baseless accusations. I have proof of your infidelity. I hired a private investigator, and I have videos and photos of you with another man."

Her face turned pale, and she stammered, "Lu Tingli, I... I can explain."

I shook my head, feeling a mix of anger, hurt, and disappointment.

"There's no need to explain. The evidence speaks for itself. We've been together for so long, and this is how you repay my love and dedication? I can't continue this relationship."

She reached out to grab my hand, tears streaming down her face.

"Lu Tingli, please give me a chance. I made a mistake, but I still love you. It was a moment of weakness, and I regret it."

I pulled my hand away, unable to hold back my emotions.

"I loved you with all my heart, Shen Shuyao. I did everything I could to support you and make you happy. But you betrayed me, and I can't trust you anymore. It's over."

With that, I stood up and walked away, leaving her sitting there, crying and begging for forgiveness.

It was a painful decision, but I knew it was the right one. I couldn't stay in a relationship built on lies and infidelity.

In the following weeks, I focused on healing and rebuilding my life. It wasn't easy, but with the support of friends and family, I slowly moved forward.

I learned from this experience that trust is a fundamental pillar of any relationship. Without it, love cannot thrive.

As time passed, the pain began to fade, and I started to open my heart to new possibilities. I realized that I deserved someone who would be faithful and appreciate my love and efforts.

Life goes on, and I'm determined to find happiness again, with someone who truly deserves my love and loyalty.
