I have never stood here for myself. I stand here for Zhang Xiaoxuan, who was nailed to the bed for protecting her roommate. I stand here for Cao Yan, who was killed while protecting her classmates. I stand here for Xiao Xiao, who held her belly until the end. I stand here for Li Qing, who pushed me out of the fire at last.

Some parents of the students also came spontaneously to testify. One parent even showed pictures of their child covered in bruises. They said those were the pictures their child fought hard to bring, but at that time, they believed that talents could only be produced under the stick. Now, they deeply regret it.

My testimony, along with the dagger that Wei Zhao used to kill Cao Yan.

He threw the dagger in the back mountain, which, due to its remote location, miraculously remained untouched by the fire. The police eventually found the dagger, becoming a strong piece of evidence.

In addition to the various pieces of incriminating evidence discovered by the police, Wei Zhao and those unworthy leaders were sent to prison together. Wei Zhao was sentenced to death.

After leaving the courtroom, I felt for the first time that the sky was so bright. In a daze, I seemed to see four old friends smiling and waving at me.

Later, the psychiatrist asked me, "What does 'Don't close your eyes when it's dark' mean?"

I answered him, "Li Qing, from our dormitory, really likes a line from 'Journey Under the Midnight Sun' that goes, 'There is no sun in my sky, but it's not dark because something has replaced the sun.' She always tells us this line.

She says that we are like this now. Although our world is dark and we can't see the light without the sun, we mustn't resign ourselves or give up. We need to keep our eyes open and wait for the sun to come out, for the day when it becomes bright."

Written in the Survival Guide, it is my own subconscious summary based on the strict school rules. Closing our eyes when it's dark means compliance, surrender, and submission. Not closing our eyes when it's dark is our greatest perseverance and resistance in this quagmire. We remember the suffering and refuse to let our humanity and love be extinguished by our experiences.

We will go further on the path of love and being loved.

We are born imperfect, and each person has their own hardships.

We are oppressed in suffering and await the dawn in the darkest times.

We are braver than ghosts and more compassionate than deities.

The first rule of survival: Believe in yourself and be yourself.
