Waking up from a nap,

it was already the next day. I didn't expect I could sleep so well.

Maybe the recent stress has been too much, and I haven't rested properly.

The door opened, and I saw Anran, who was on duty last night, came back. According to them, nothing happened last night, it was very quiet.

This gave the next group of people great confidence.

During the next few night patrols, two groups of people disappeared, while others safely escorted their neighbors home, narrowly escaping danger.

"Tonight, all of you will visit your upstairs neighbors overnight."

"Rule number one: do not let the neighbors chase you out. Those who get kicked out will, hehe."

The old man chuckled, then continued:

"Rule number two: you must finish all the food the neighbor brings, no picky eating, no leftovers."

"Neighbors like people with stories. If you can make your neighbor happy, you will receive a gift. If you anger the neighbor, you will become the neighbor's gift."

"Be sure to go find your neighbor upstairs at ten o'clock tonight."

"Is it one person going to the neighbor alone, or can two people go together?"

"That depends on your neighbor. Just a hint, neighbors don't like it when there are many people."

Those who escorted the neighbors home breathed a sigh of relief.

Jin Fei looked at me pitifully.

Forget it, let's give it a try. Let's see if the neighbor at 4009 is willing to let both of us visit.

That night, I politely knocked on the door of 4009 with Jin Fei.

"Hello, can we come to your home for the night?"

He remained silent, just turned sideways, the door was open, indicating his consent.

Jin Fei and I quickly entered and closed the door. At least tonight should be problem-free.

The pitch-black walls made people feel somewhat oppressed for no reason.

Jin Fei and I didn't speak for a while, afraid of annoying him and getting kicked out.

The neighbor stood by the coffin, reaching inside and digging out something.

I twitched my eyes as I watched him pull out unidentifiable meat and a white sticky substance from the coffin.

Thinking about the instruction to finish all the food the neighbor brought, Jin Fei and I couldn't help but shiver.

"Um, do you have a fire at home? Let me cook it."

He paused, pointed to the kitchen, and handed me the stuff he was holding.

The kitchen was clean, and everything needed was there.

I asked Jin Fei to check if there was anything in the fridge and take it out to stir-fry with the meat.

We quickly cooked and put it on the table. Luckily, I took the initiative, so we didn't use much of the meat—otherwise, how could we dare to eat it all.

The neighbor didn't come to eat; he just watched quietly as Jin Fei and I finished.

Fortunately, the meat tasted similar to pork.

The old man said neighbors like people with stories. I was at a loss; I didn't have any exciting stories to tell.

I hinted to Jin Fei with my eyes, and she shook her head in distress.

Forget it, let's forgo the gift and quietly spend the night.

The neighbor started digging things from the coffin again, the sound of his long nails sliding on the coffin making it eerie.

After digging for a while, he handed me a doll that looked like a smiling face hanging on his nails.

I took the doll from him, and it looked no different from the ones we see in real life, but the smile on its face was unsettling.

I thanked him, treasured the doll, and placed it in my arms in front of him.

Seeing me take the doll, he said there's a bed in the room if we want to sleep and then climbed back into the coffin.

I slept very comfortably that night. Despite living next to a neighbor who seemed like a ghost, after several encounters, I found out that he wasn't the type to randomly kill people.

This task was the easiest one in history.
