The farce ended, I slumped on the sofa, staring at the ceiling.

At this time in the past, Zhang Jing's son was still hopping around, making noise that made one's forehead throb. Now it's so quiet that I'm not quite used to it.

I laughed self-deprecatingly; it seems I'm used to being mistreated.

"I spent so much money raising you, and you stay home every day only knowing how to draw. I'll let you draw."

The sounds of things being thrown around next door made the veins on my forehead throb. This is great; one troublemaker left, and two more immediately took their place.

"Mom, brother also raised a dog." I didn't know what the little boy found out, but I knew the young man's reaction next door was very intense.

"Don't touch Little Orange."

"A dead dog, and you even put up a memorial for it. I'll make sure you don't earn any money."

Then there was another clamor next door. Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.

The next day, with two big dark circles under my eyes, I underwent police questioning with Li Jun. Thanks to Ms. Zhang, I got to visit the police station again.

"Officer, it must have been the two of them conspiring to kill my daughter."

"Quiet down." The officer was probably annoyed by Ms. Zhang's noise.

"We found a piece of your clothing on the deceased," the police suddenly turned their aim at me.

"How could it be?" I was a bit dazed; how could that be possible?

"Wu Jin, stop pretending. You've held a grudge against Zhang Jing for years, resenting your mother-in-law for causing your mother's death,

resenting Zhang Jing for taking me away, taking your house. But you can't kill someone." Li Jun's petty face was annoying to look at.

"Shut up," I snapped, "Officer, I remember now. I did lose a piece of clothing before the incident. Could it have been stolen by the murderer?"

"The specific time and place, any evidence?"

"I can't remember very clearly. I usually get off work very late, and I don't know exactly when it was lost. I just noticed it missing the next day when I was looking for it. There's no witness; I've always lived alone."

The police exchanged glances, just about to speak when Ms. Zhang lunged at me, "Ah, I knew it was you. How can you be so vicious?"

The police officer had probably never been so speechless in his life. It took a lot of effort to control Ms. Zhang: "We understand the situation, but given your current heavy suspicion, you can't leave the police station."

I sighed; looks like my job is completely gone now.

The police searched for several days but still found no clues. A piece of cloth alone couldn't convict me.

"Officer, can you let me go home? I've been here for 2 days."

Due to insufficient evidence, the police had no choice but to let me go.

As I opened my door, the woman next door almost scared me to death with a shout. Good heavens, still making a fuss after a few days. Just then the man next door came out and looked at me apologetically.

"Taking out the trash?" I greeted proactively.

The man nodded. The black plastic bag looked heavier than the man. With so many people in the household, of course, there would be a lot of garbage.

I had no mind to care about the man's family matters, only wanting to slump back home.

Around half past ten, the noise started up again next door. My nerves weakened, wanting to remind them when the doorbell rang.

Since the police were monitoring me 24/7, I wasn't that afraid and opened the door confidently.

"Sis, can I stay at your place for a while?" The man next door was shivering. I softened and agreed.

Once inside, he curled up on the sofa like last time. The noise continued next door. Feeling sorry, I said, "Your parents can't keep going like this."

Awkwardly, the man said, "They're leaving soon. Sis, I'm sorry to disturb you."

"It's okay." Although I was full of anger, I couldn't vent it.

We sat together for quite a while until it finally quieted down. I thought it was finally peaceful and was about to send the man home when there was another knock on the door. Both the man and I were startled.

Perhaps the shadow of last time was too much; I was relieved when I saw it wasn't the man's parents opening the door.

But upon seeing the visitor, my mood soured: "What are you doing here?"

"I'm not looking for you," Li Jun frowned, stretching his neck to peek inside. Suddenly his eyes brightened, and he said irritably, "It's good that you're here. Please keep your place quiet; Hongyu can't rest."

The man turned pale, nodded timidly: "Alright."

Seeing this, Li Jun felt like punching a pillow, powerless, and vented his anger on me: "I didn't expect you to fall this low, your taste is getting worse."

"Get out." I angrily slammed the door shut with a bang.

"Sis, I should go home now," the man stood up, hesitating.

"Okay."

Sending the man off, I finally had some peace, and next door finally quieted down too. I had a rare good night's sleep.

"Morning, taking out the trash again?" Opening the door, I saw the man next door with a black trash bag. His household sure had a lot of garbage these days.

"Yes. By the way, Sis, sorry for disturbing you. My parents left yesterday."

"Really? They left?" I asked uncertainly.

"Yes." The man said no more and left with the trash.

Today is really a good day, even better if I weren't under surveillance anymore.
